A man from Merano wins Italy's toughest extreme triathlon

Osele won on Saturday the first official edition of the “Stonebrixiaman” extreme triathlon in Lombardy, one of the ten toughest triathlons in the world. He completed the over 6000 meters in altitude and full Ironman distance in 13 hours and 51 minutes, followed by the Italians Christiano Tara (14:02 hours) and Renato Dell'Oro (14:08 hours) at the finish.

The starting shot for the premiere was given at 4 a.m. in Sulzano on Lake Iseo. The water launch from a cargo ship in the darkness of the night was truly celebrated with an impressive fire show. After the 3,8 kilometer swim, Osele switched to the racing bike in 20th place and managed to attack with an outstanding performance over the 180 kilometer long bike course.

Crossed the finish line eleven minutes ahead After the Mortirolo Pass he was already in second position, but on the way to the Gavia Pass he “flew” past the leading Belgian Brackx Brecht and reached the second transition zone with a considerable lead of 20 minutes. After a loop around Ponte di Legno, the demanding marathon route with an altitude of 2200 meters led mostly over forest paths and climbs to the Tonale Pass, from where the triathletes, accompanied by a supporter, started the final climb to the finish at the eponymous “Passo Paradiso”. Roland Osele was able to maintain his lead throughout the entire run and finally crossed the finish line with an eleven-minute lead at an altitude of 2600m.

Not only the extreme performance in the three disciplines, but also the unique backdrop around Lake Iseo, the Valcamonica and the Passo Tonale took the breath away of the almost 100 athletes, including from France, Germany, Belgium and Brazil.
