After a fatal lightning strike: Skyrace will also take place in 2020

The race along the Horseshoe Tour in the Sarntal Alps will take place from August 28th to 30th. This measure is intended to significantly reduce the risk to participants. Since the first edition in July 2013, the organizers of the extreme sports event in Sarntal have tried to keep the risk of accidents as close to zero as possible. Experts from civil protection and mountain rescue work closely with the race management at the headquarters in Bolzano. 4 different distances to choose from The starting signal for the Ultra Skyrace 2020 will take place on Friday, August 28th at 19 p.m. at Waltherplatz in Bolzano, one hour earlier than before. As in previous years, four different distances with varying levels of difficulty are offered. The Ultra Skyrace, one of the most demanding and technically difficult extreme mountain races in the world, is 121 kilometers long. On the legendary horseshoe tour in the heart of the Sarntal Alps, experienced mountain participants have to climb 7554 meters in altitude. The Ultra Skyrace measures just over half of the royal distance (69 km/3930 m), while the South Tyrol Sky Marathon for mountain runners covers a distance of 42,2 km and 2863 m. For less experienced athletes, however, the South Tyrol Sky Trail is suitable, as the route is 27 km long and has around 1000 m of altitude to climb. The races on the three shorter routes start in the early hours of Saturday, August 29th.
