Ötzi Alpine Marathon: The record holders

The participants have to cover the first section by mountain bike (24,2km), then complete a running route (11,8km) and finally climb 6,2km on skis. The competition can be played alone or in a team. It starts at 9 a.m. in the parking lot in front of the town hall in Naturns.

A total of eight competitions were held between 2004 and 2012. In 2010 the South Tyrolean endurance race had to be canceled due to bad weather.

The previous record holders of the Ötzi Alpine Marathon with two wins each are Laura Mazzucco (Italy), Heinz Verbnjak and Stefan Kogler (Austria). Mazzucco and Kogler won the race in 2007 and 2008, while Heinz Verbnjak was successful in 2006 and 2009. Markus Stock (Austria/2005) and the South Tyroleans Roland Osele (2004), Philip Götsch (2011) and Georg Piazza (2012) were each able to record one victory. Annamaria Garelli (Italy) was the first winner among women, followed by the Austrians Marita Staufer (2005) and Simone Hornegger (2006), the German Barbara Gruber (2009), the South Tyrolean Alexandra Hober (2011) and the Swiss Andrea Huser ( 2012).

The South Tyrolean Philipp Götsch holds the course record with 3:25.07 (2011) hours. So far, Barbara Gruber (2009) from Germany was the fastest among women in 4:10.57 hours.

Austria and Italy lead the nations rankings

In the national ranking for individual participants we find athletes from four countries: Austria and Italy are tied at the top with seven successes. In Austria, five victories went to the men and two to the women. For Italy, the women have won four times and the men have won three times.

Athletes from five countries appear in the national rankings for teams. Austria leads the overall women's/men's rankings with seven wins, ahead of Germany with five wins and Italy with four wins. The most successful women's team so far has been Germany with five first places, followed by Italy with three. In the men's category, Austria has seven wins, while Italy has won once.

It should be noted that the three-man relays can consist of athletes from different nations. For the national ranking, the nation of the registered team counts and not that of the individual participants.
