At 3133 meters, Cerro Torre is very difficult to climb due to its steep, smooth granite walls, its summit ice mushroom and the extremely adverse weather conditions. The granite tower on the Argentine-Chilean border is considered by mountaineers to be one of the most difficult and at the same time most beautiful peaks in the world. The mountain tells a lived alpine and ascent history, which is characterized by successes, failures, contradictions, controversial bolt climbs, strokes of fate and critical disputes.

David Lama and his rope partner Peter Ortner set an important milestone in this history on January 21.01.2012, XNUMX. They managed the first free ascent of the legendary “Kompressor route”. The successful first free ascent of the summit secured it a place in Alpine history.

On Sunday afternoon, October 19th, the documentary “Cerro Torre – Not a hint of a chance” will be shown as part of the IMS. This film is now one of the most successful films of the year. It serves as the basis for the discussion on Monday evening October 20th “Cerro Torre – The story behind the story”.

The central topic of the discussion will be the story behind the story, surrounding the dramas, challenges and excitement of the mountain and David Lama's ascent.

Back in 2011, a controversial discussion about the topic of “show alpinism” took place on the IMS stage in Brixen, in which the Cerro Torre project was once again discussed. Two of the protagonists at the time were Reinhold Messner and David Lama. They are sitting opposite each other again this year.

In addition to the main protagonists David Lama and Reinhold Messner, the mountain guide Hanspeter Eisendle, the photographer and mountain expert Robert Bösch, and the director Thomas Dirnhofer sit on the IMS stage. An exciting new edition of a discussion with newly shuffled cards.

The evening will be moderated by presenter Ernst Vogt (Bayrischer Rundfunk).
