Prad has many running highlights

VSS village run for the 15th time

It starts next Tuesday with the traditional VSS village run. This is the 15th time that ASV Prad has organized this regional run, which attracts around 300 participants every year. The characteristic of this popular village run is the particularly flat route through the village center and the Prader fields. The race also counts as the first stage of the “VSS/Raiffeisen City and Village Runs” running series.

The Stelvio Pass is now also interesting for runners The municipality of Prad and especially event manager Gerald Burger, who is also the marathon's OC chief, are hoping for a lot with the first edition of the “Stelvio Stelvio Marathon” on June 17th. “So far the Stelvio Pass has been the absolute highlight for cyclists and bikers, now we want to make it attractive for runners too,” explained Burger today in the “Bräustüberl” in the forest. There are two routes to choose from. The long version measures the exact marathon distance (42,195 m) and leads first to Glurns and then back to Prad. After about 16, rather flat, kilometers, the actual climb to the Stelvio Pass begins. From Franzenshöhe, the runners still have to complete the last 25 bends of the world-famous mountain road before reaching the finish at 2.757 meters. The marathon distance measures a whopping 2.300 meters in altitude. According to the organizers, the winner is expected to reach the yoke after 3:30.00 hours.

The shorter version (26 km) goes straight uphill and you can decide for yourself whether you want to cover the 2.250 meters in altitude as a run or as a walk.

In addition to the Brixen Dolomites Marathon, South Tyrol now has a second mountain marathon on the calendar. “We were inspired by the Jungfrau Marathon in Switzerland and would like to do the same in Italy soon,” admits OK boss Gerald Burger at the launch.

To date, 473 athletes from 15 nations have already registered. Registrations are possible until the day of the event.

Transalpine run with finish and start in Prad

The third running highlight is the “Transalpine Run”, where the small Vinschger community was chosen as the destination and starting point by the German event organizer “PLAN B”. This trail run stage race takes you from Fischen im Allgäu to Sulden in seven days. The 6th stage will end in Prad and the day after the starting signal will be fired for the final stage, which will end in Sulden am Ortler. The winner of the last edition, Daniel Jung from Vinschger, is also very enthusiastic about this year's route. Jung will not be able to take part this year as he will be concentrating on other running events this season.

Prad has many running highlights

The small market town at the foot of the Stelvio is the ideal place to give the running community free rein, whether with or without altitude. Today, three running events were presented at a press conference at the Forst brewery.
