Rabensteiner remains the king of the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace

After the start on Friday evening at 22 p.m. at Waltherplatz in Bozen, Alexander Rabensteiner (Skinfit Bozen) started like a fire department together with his strongest competitors. Mikhail Mamleev (Mölten), Peter Kienzl (Hafling) and Bernhard Stoll (Niederdorf) set a high pace with the Klausner from the start. Stoll in particular stayed on the defending champion's heels at the first two checkpoints at Rittner Horn and Latzfonser Kreuz. However, in his home mountains of the Eisack Valley, Rabensteiner was able to break away somewhat. At the Penser Joch, i.e. after about half the route, Rabensteiner's lead over the competition was around eleven minutes - and that after a running time of 8:21.32 hours. At this point, Stoll and Mamleev were in second and third positions almost simultaneously.

Rabensteiner also stayed ahead on the section to Ebenbergalm. On this section, Haflinger Peter Kienzl fought his way to second place with the second fastest part time. Mamleev remained in third place in the overall standings, Stoll fell back to fourth place.

Rabensteiner is gradually expanding its lead Alexaner Rabensteiner then continued to go at a hellish pace. He arrived at the Hirzerhütte after 12:12.36 hours, almost 25 minutes faster than last year, and was almost 26 minutes ahead of Kienzl. In Jenesien Rabensteiner was 45 minutes below his course record (17:19.43 hours). Now only the descent to Bozen remained before Rabensteiner. And here too, the two-time winner literally “flew” over the asphalt. In the end he set a new record of 17:52.24 hours. The hat trick at the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace was perfect.

“My competitors really stepped on the gas at the beginning. That suited me, even though it was exciting up to Penser Joch and my lead wasn't very high. At the Hirzer I was finally able to break away. The temperatures were ideal for running. I already thought that I could break the record. But almost 45 minutes – I would never have expected that,” said Rabensteiner at the finish.

Mamleev overtakes Kienzl 57 minutes after Rabensteiner, Mikhail Mamleev (athlete team) arrived at the finish in Bolzano. The 40-year-old recorded a time of 18:49.39 hours at his South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace premiere. Peter Kienzl, who came third in 19:18, also stayed under the 58.09-hour mark. Mamleev made the decisive attack on the section from the Hirzer Hütte to the Meraner Hütte, where the native Russian overtook the Tschöggelberger. Finally, fourth place went to Bernhard Stoll (19:02.52), who was on course for a podium finish on the first section of the route.

Annemarie Gross is in the lead among the women. The Sarnen native reached the Meraner Hütte checkpoint after 18:39.18 hours. If she can keep up this pace and get through it, she should reach the finish between 20 and 20.30:XNUMX p.m. It would be Gross' third victory in the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace.
