Red Bull X-Alps: Two South Tyroleans have Monaco in their sights - VIDEO

The aim of the competition is to cross the Alpine arc from Salzburg to Monaco. Here you have to pass predefined points on the map. The extreme athletes can move around either by paraglider or on foot. The use of other means of transport is not permitted.

The duration is limited to a maximum of 21 days. For those athletes who did not reach the finish, the missing distance to the finish will be counted. In 2013, the mandatory rest break between 22:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. was introduced for safety reasons. During these five hours they are not allowed to move more than 250 meters from their resting position. With the Night Pass, athletes are allowed to forego a nighttime rest break of their choice. Every athlete has an assistant on their side. The assistant is allowed to provide the pilot with information, food and equipment and serves as a link to the race management. However, the athlete must have the paraglider, his harness with rescue parachute, the helmet and the GPS receiver with him. The assistant is only allowed to transport the equipment.

Aaron Durogati from Meran will be there for the third time this year. In 2013 he reached 7th place and in 2015 he finished 6th. For Tobias Grossrubatscher from Castelrotto, however, this year is his first participation in the Red Bull X-Alps. With his supporter Lukas Hitthaler he will have his sights set on the goal in Monaco from Saturday.

The eighth edition of the race starts on Saturday, December 2nd. Juliam Mozartplatz in Salzburg in Austria. As in the previous edition, a prologue will be on the program for June 29th. The three best-placed athletes in the prologue each receive a second night pass for the main competition. In addition, the mandatory night's rest on the second day of the competition will be extended by the time difference to the prologue winner.

On the way to the principality on the Mediterranean there are ten turning points to pass: Gaisberg (Austria), Triglav (Slovenia), Aschau-Chiemsee (Germany), Lermoos (Austria), Monte Baldo (Italy), Matterhorn (Switzerland) and Peille ( France).
