South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace successfully completed - all results

The trio needed 38:37 hours to complete the 121-kilometer route with an elevation gain of 7069 meters. More than twice as long as the winner and new course record holder Alexander Rabensteiner (18:36.59). Nevertheless, the three ultra trail runners were extremely happy about what they had achieved. They proudly accepted their bright yellow finisher shirts. Most of the finishers proudly wore them a little later at the prize distribution on the Talferwiesen in Bolzano.

A total of 56 of 104 men who started on the original route reached the finish. In the women's race, six out of seven athletes made it. Here, Annemarie Gross, like Rabensteiner, repeated her victory from the previous year in the men's category. The South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace “short” (66 kilometers/4260 meters altitude) had already ended on Saturday afternoon. Of the 107 athletes who started, 92 finished here. This corresponds to a fantastic finisher rate of 86 percent. A value that certain marathon races cannot achieve. Josef Blasbichler from Verdings and top Polish ski mountaineer Anna Figura emerged as winners.

In any case, OC boss Josef Günther Mair was satisfied: “It was a great event. We received a lot of praise this year, especially for the perfect markings and the excellent food. The athletes were amazed at how friendly and caring they were looked after and cared for everywhere along the route. That's why I'm happy to pass on this praise to the second protagonists alongside the participants in the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace. These are the volunteers from the various clubs. There were 450 of them and each of them made this extreme mountain run on the Horseshoe Tour in the Sarntal Alps something special. Thank you for your commitment. Thanks also go to the many sponsors and the public administration for their valuable support.”

Because after the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace there is before the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace, Josef Günther Mair is already looking ahead. “I hope that I can welcome all of this year’s participants again next year. The South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace will take place again at the end of the month, from July 24th to 26th, 2015. And I am convinced that due to the very positive feedback, many new starters will be added,” concluded the OC boss.

When Paolo Vagaggini, Wolfgang Klebelsberg and Paolo Habe reached the finish on the Talferwiesen in Bolzano at 12.37 p.m. on Sunday, the second edition of the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace was officially over.
