South Tyrolean cycling ace triumphs in extreme mountain running

Self-discipline, mental strength, iron will: These three cornerstones are a prerequisite for being able to withstand the strain of skyrunning, a form of extreme mountain running. The principle is to go up quickly: And things went up quickly on Saturday at the third edition of the “SPORTLER Vertical Innsbruck”. Over a length of 3,6 kilometers, 1.045 meters of altitude had to be overcome. The route led from Hungerburg (860 m above sea level) to Seegrube (1.905 m above sea level).

A cycling expert wins the women's competition After two Austrian successes in 2016 and 2017, the South Tyrolean Andrea Parigger from Gossensass won this year in the women's race in 50:54 minutes, with a respectable gap to the female competition. Last year's fabulous time by multiple mountain running world champion Andrea Mayr (38:53 minutes) remained out of reach. “That was my first time at the SPORTLER Vertical; it was a balance for me after a very successful racing bike season. There I became the South Tyrolean Mountain Cup winner this year. In this respect, this success at a running event came as a surprise, but that makes it all the better. The temperatures were ideal, I found the perfect rhythm right from the start. Of course that motivates me to take part in the SPORTLER Vertical in Bolzano in a month,” said Andrea Parigger. First home win for the men In the men's category, 27-year-old Philipp Brugger from Innsbruck won the SPORTLER Vertical in 37:46 minutes, thus securing Tyrol's first home win in this competition since it was first held in 2016. Last year's winning time from South Tyrolean Hannes Perkmann, who won in 2017:36 minutes in 21, remained untouched. Philipp Brugger prevailed with a clear lead, but the race for second place was exciting: The Italian Daniele Felicetti (Predazzo) took second place in 38:41 minutes, just ahead of the South Tyrolean Klaus Gartner (Ahrntal; 38:45). South Tyrolean cycling ace triumphs in extreme mountain running

The third edition of the extreme mountain run “SPORTLER Vertical Innsbruck” took place on Saturday with around 100 participants. Local hero Philipp Brugger from Innsbruck triumphed in the men's category, while the women's victory went to South Tyrolean Andrea Parigger (Gossensass).
