Top 10 for Verena Steinhauser in Astana

Verena Steinhauser from Brixen got off to a good start and came out of the water with the top field. The 23-year-old didn't lose any time on the racing bike either. But when it came to running, the wheat was separated from the chaff; Sandra Dodet from France pulled away and celebrated an easy victory ahead of her compatriot Emilie Morier and Angelica Olmo from Italy. Steinhauser crossed the finish line in ninth place, almost two minutes behind.

Matthias Steinwandtner didn't have a good day for the men. The 25-year-old lost around 30 seconds to the top when swimming and about eight minutes when cycling. The man from Innich had to give up on the running route. The Russian Dmitry Payanskiy won the day, Marcel Walkington followed in second place, 15 seconds behind, and Aurelien Raphael from France came third.

The next stop in the Triathlon World Cup is Sardinia; the World Cup stops in Cagliari at the beginning of June.
