Tragedy on Nanga Parbat: Moving farewell message

Daniele Nardi's team said goodbye to the 42-year-old alpinist with a moving message on Facebook. “The pain is huge. We regret to announce that the search for Daniele and Tom has ended. Some of them will stay on Nanga Parbat forever.”

The two bodies were spotted near the Diamir face of Nanga Parbat - as part of a drone-assisted search operation - two days ago. There has been sad certainty since Saturday that these are the alpinists who have been missing since February 24th. The bodies, which are located at 5900 meters, will not be recovered.

“Daniele,” the post on Facebook says, “was a husband, a father, a son, a brother that we lost. He died for his passion, which we accepted, respected and shared from the beginning. We remember you as a man who loved his life and adventures, who was careful, courageous, loyal and who was always present when you needed him.”

At the end of the Facebook message there are a few words from Nardi himself that he left before his expedition: “I want people to remember me as a boy who tries something that is actually incredible, impossible - and but he didn't give up. If I don't come back, I want my son to get this message: Never give up, never give up, try hard and do your thing. Because the world needs people who will give peace a reality and not just an idea. It’s worth it.”
