Transalpine Run: It starts on Saturday - South Tyroleans with eight wins

The runners from South Tyrol can look back on a long-standing and successful tradition. Since 2005, eight victories have been achieved by local athletes. In 2013, the South Tyroleans did not climb to the top podium, but they did win silver three times: in the women's category with Annemarie Gross and Tamara Lunger, in the master class with Anton Steiner and Klaus Wellenzohn and in the senior master class with Rudi Schöpf and Florian Kuppelwieser. The last victory was two years ago by Irene Senfter and Stefan Tschurtschenthaler in the mixed class. In 2011, Rudi Schöpf from Vinschger was successful together with Hans Hörmann from Allgäu in the Senior Master category (100+). In 2010, the two Sesto women Martina Pfeifhofer and Elisabeth Egarter won their first victory after two second places in 2008 and 2009. Irene Senfter from Lanan was successful in the women's category in 2009 together with Petra Theiner, while she won in 2006 and 2007 together with Annemarie Gross from Sarnen.

Gertraud Höllrigl and Norbert Platzgummer from Naturns won the mixed category in 2008, while Manfred Wurzer and Eugen Innerkofler from Puster won the master's competition in 2007. Twelve additional podium places were achieved by local athletes, including eight second and four third places. The remaining Italian victories were recorded by Trentino's Silvano Fedel and Ettore Girardi (3) and Paolo Largher and Luca Miori (1).

South Tyrol 38 times stage location This year South Tyrol is providing six stage locations: Prettau, Sand in Taufers, Speikboden, St.Vigil in Enneberg, Niederdorf and Sexten. This means that the country of the Dolomites has been the destination of a stage for the 38th time in ten years of the Transalpine Run. The crossing of the Alps on foot ends in Sesto for the fourth time. Prettau, Niederdorf and Sand in Taufers were also stage destinations four times, St. Vigil three times and Speikboden (mountain sprint) for the first time.
