Transalpine Run begins with a South Tyrolean victory

Around 600 runners from 33 nations, including 14 South Tyroleans, are taking part in this year's Alpine crossing on foot. The two Vinschgers Daniel Jung and Ivan Paulmichl covered the first section over 34,60 km and 2083 meters in altitude with the best time of the day of 3:54.42 hours and achieved a confident victory in the men's race. Last year, the South Tyrolean duo came third overall. Second place went to the Spaniards Oscar and Marc Casal (+11.15 minutes), third place went to Oliver Johnson and Rhys Findlay-Robinson (+14.03 minutes). In the master class, Anton Steiner and Thomas Hellrigl took third place behind the Hungarians Tamas. Karlowits/Németh Csaba and the Swiss Urs Jenzer/Ruedi Bärtschi. Silvano Fedel, who has already won the race three times, took fifth place with Andrea Gottardi from Trentino.

On Sunday from Lech to St. Anton Tomorrow's stage leads from Lech to St. Anton am Arlberg. It measures 24,70 km / 1899 m and is the shortest of the eight-day Alpine crossing. In total, from start to finish, the participants cover 268 kilometers and 16.300 meters of ascent and 14.532 meters of descent. South Tyrol provides two stage locations: St. Valentin auf der Heide and Sulden.
