Transalpine Run: First victory for Senfter/Tschurtschenthaler

After fifth place on the first day and the second best time on Sunday, Irene Senfter and Stefan Tschurtschenthaler won the mixed teams for the first time today. The people from Lanan and Sexten crossed the finish line after 5:42.06,5 hours at the same time as the Swiss Gaby Steigmeier and Roman Nef. The Spaniards Rodriguez Bustillo and Azpeleta Che Dominguez Nur came third, 1.40 minutes behind.

In the women's category, Elisabeth Egarter and Petra Theiner were in second place after their opening victory on Saturday, like yesterday. The South Tyroleans had to admit defeat by 10.25:5 minutes to Gitti Schiebel and Ildikó Wermescher (D/HUN), who were able to celebrate their second win of the day in a row in 58.37,6:30.01,3 hours. In the Senior Master class, the defending champions Rudi Schöpf and Hans Hörmann (Team Latsch) took second place for the first time after two third places. Peter-Paul Steinhauser and Hermann Schaiter (Team Ahrntal) crossed the finish line 6.25 minutes behind the day's winners, Gerald Rüschenpöhler and Jörg Schreiber, from Allgäu (5:29.42,9).

Tomorrow the Transalpine Run comes to South Tyrol. The fourth stage leads from Neukirchen am Großvenediger (Salzburg) over 43,30 km and 1997 meters of altitude to Prettau in the Ahrntal.

500 participants from 32 nations, including ten South Tyroleans, have to walk 320 km and climb 15.000 meters across the Alps in teams of two in eight days. Five out of eight stages are in our country; Prettau, Sand in Taufers, St.Vigil in Enneberg, Niederdorf and Sexten, which is the destination of the Alpine crossing for the third time. The Transalpine Run runs through Germany, Austria and South Tyrol.

Since its premiere in 2005, the Alpine crossing has been considered one of the most demanding stage races for trail runners in the world.

The Transalpine Run is evaluated in five different categories: men, men's masters (together over 80 years old), senior masters (together over 100 years old), mixed and women.

Transalpine Run: First victory for Senfter/Tschurtschenthaler

The third stage of the GORE-TEX® Transalpine Run was once again very successful for the local athletes. The South Tyroleans won one victory and two second places. The third section led from Kitzbühel over 46,50 km and 2258 meters in altitude to Neukirchen am Großvenediger in the Salzburger Land.
