Transalpine Run: Five South Tyrolean podium finishes on Sunday

The same two teams as on Saturday, albeit in reverse order, also dominated the second stage of the Transalpine Run for men. This time the brothers Oscar and Marc Casal from Andorra were the first team to cross the finish line in St. Anton am Arlberg after 3:06.08 hours; the two Vinschgers Daniel Jung and Ivan Paulmichl, third overall last year, followed 4.43 minutes behind Second place. This means that Jung and Paulmichl remain further ahead in the overall standings, with a lead of around six and a half minutes.

In addition to Jung/Paulmichl's second place, there was good news to report from a South Tyrolean perspective, especially in the Master Mixed category. Annemarie Gross and Franz Kröss, third on Saturday, crossed the finish line in second place, 19,4 seconds behind the winning team Tassani-Prell/Schreyer from Germany, while Annelise Felderer and Markus Planötscher came in third, 2.10 minutes behind.

The Ultental team (Richard and Oswald Wenin), however, achieved second place in the Senior Master category. With a significant improvement compared to fifth place on Saturday, they lost just 31 seconds to the victorious German team Schreiber/Miksch.

The fifth South Tyrolean podium finish in this second stage of the Transalpine Run 2015 was ultimately achieved by the Reschenpass team (Anton Steiner/Thomas Hellrigl), which finished 9.11 minutes behind the victorious Swiss team Jenzer-Bärtschi in the men's master category landed third place. Steiner and Hellrigl had already crossed the finish line in third place in the first stage.

On the second stage of the 11th Gore-Tex Transalpine Run, 24,7 kilometers and 1899 meters of ascent and 2040 meters of descent had to be overcome. Immediately after the start in Lech, the runners initially went extremely steeply up to the 2339 meter high Rüfikopf, from there over two gaps down into the Almajurtal and to the Erlachalpe (1922 meters). A second long climb led from the Alpe up to the highest point of today's stage, to the Valvagehrjoch at 2543 meters, from where it was “only” downhill to the finish in St. Anton.

Transalpine Run: Five South Tyrolean podium finishes on Sunday

The South Tyroleans continue to set the tone at the 11th Gore-Tex Transalpine Run. After four podium finishes at the start yesterday, there were even five places on the podium on Sunday. However, there was no daily victory among them.
