Transalpine Run: South Tyroleans start with four podium places

In the men's category, Daniel Jung from Latsch, winner of the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace 2016, and his Allgäu partner Helmut Schiessl took second place, 2.40 minutes behind the fastest of the day, the Austrians Florian Heinzle and Mario Weiß (3:34.50).7.56 Minutes behind the winners, Ivan Paulmichl (Laatsch) and Michael Kabicher (Austria) crossed the finish line in third place. Last year, Jung and Paulmichl took second place overall.

The South Tyrolean women also impressed with third place on the opening stage. The Eisacktal siblings Melanie and Priska Gasser crossed the finish line in Lermoos behind two German teams, consisting of Sina Manishe and Lisa Mehl as well as Nina Koch Johanna Erhart.

In the Master Mixed category (together at least 100 years old), Irene Senfter, the Transalpine Run four-time winner from Lana, came third on the podium together with Jens Kramer from Steinegg (4:40.23). Her lead over the fourth-placed winners from 2014, the South Tyrolean Anneliese Felderer and Manfred Planötscher, was 8.44 minutes. Franz Kröss and Maria Kemenater from Sarnen finished the first stage in sixth place. The victory went to Lara Crivelli and Max Valsesia from Piedmont in 4:32.33. The two Italians left the second-placed Spaniards Xabi Lekue and Leir Elosegui Insausti behind by 1.34 minutes.

The second stage takes the athletes on Monday from Lermoos to Imst (33,8 km/2023 hm). On Tuesday, however, the route leads to Mandarfen in the Pitztal, where the first glacier section to Sölden starts. On Thursday the Alpine crossing reaches South Tyrol (St. Leonhard in Passeier). After another stop in Sarnthein, the entourage reaches its destination in Brixen. In seven days, the total of 600 runners have to cover 247,2 km and 14.862 meters in altitude ascent and 14.998 meters in descent.
