Ultra Skyrace is and remains the “most extreme experience in the Alps”

The prize distribution was taking place on the Bolzano Talferwiesen on Sunday when, shortly after 11 a.m., Domenico Greco from Portogruaro (Venice) arrived at the finish line as the last finisher. The 48-year-old had a time of 121:7554 hours for the 39 km and 22.20 meters in altitude. Greco defied the violent thunderstorms that had erupted over the western flank of the Sarntal Alps since late Saturday evening - but due to the highly professional work of the race management, the Federal Republic of Germany and the CNSAS, these had no major consequences for the participants. The race was interrupted for one and a half hours in the evening, after which the route was reopened. The winner of the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace sat happily in the audience as Greco crossed the finish line. Daniel Jung from Latsch, who has been living in Naturns for eight years, completed the horseshoe tour with the new, incredible course record of 17:34.37 hours. Irene Senfter from Lana won the women's race, arriving after 23:56.10 hours and therefore also needed less than a day to circumnavigate the horseshoe.

High finisher rate at Skyrace and Sky Marathon There were also two South Tyrolean winners in the South Tyrol Skyrace (69 km/3930 meters altitude). In the men's category, Anton Eisenstecken from Neustift climbed to the highest podium on the winner's podium. His time was 8:27.40 hours. However, the fastest woman arrived after 9:56.59 hours. This was Maria Kemenater from Sarnen. A total of 138 mountain runners out of 165 starters reached the finish. This corresponds to a very good rate of 83,63 percent. At the premiere of the South Tyrol Sky Marathon (42,2/2863), which was offered for the first time this year, the Haflinger Andreas Reiterer (4:01.41) and the Val Gardena Birgit Klemm (5:16.04) prevailed. Almost all participants made it to the finish line, namely 165 of 169 starters. This corresponds to an exceptionally high ratio of 97,63 percent.

The OK team takes stock OC boss Josef Günther Mair from the organizing ASV Südtirol Ultra Skyrace looked back on the recently completed event with satisfaction: “I think we saw top sporting performances for three days. I congratulate all participants on their achievements. Everyone who has ventured onto one of the three routes can feel like a winner, even if one or the other may not have made it to the finish line. I would like to thank our 500 volunteers and the 70 men from the mountain rescue and CNSAS for their tireless efforts. Without them, such an event would never be possible, just as it would not be if we did not have such strong partners as athletes, La Sportiva, the Bozen Tourist Office, the municipality of Sarntal and countless other sponsors at our side.” As part of the three-day extreme sports event, the date for the fifth edition of the extreme mountain run along the Horseshoe Tour in the Sarntal Alps has already been announced. The next South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace will take place in 2017 from July 28th to 30th - a date that all mountain running fans can mark in their calendars.
