Ultra Skyrace winner Daniel Jung: “Having fun is the most important thing”

Daniel Jung , winner of the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace (121 km/7554 meters altitude): Shortly before the Penser Joch the fog was very heavy. That was borderline for us top athletes. Despite the very good markings on the part of the organizer, I lost my way when visibility was just a few meters away. But I got back on the right route relatively quickly. After that I had a little crisis and no longer thought that I could break Alexander Rabensteiner's record. As the race continued I felt better and better and that motivated me even more. Now I am overjoyed and would like to thank my family and friends for their excellent support. What is the most important thing in this sport? That you have fun with it. Otherwise you wouldn't go through these hardships. Irene Senfter , winner of the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace: I felt very good at night. When daylight came, I had muscular problems. It didn't feel good at all, especially when walking downhill. At Penser Joch I briefly considered whether it made sense to continue running like this. But then everything slowly resolved itself and things got better and better. Now I'm just happy about this win and I'm very happy with my performance. Anton Eisenstangen , winner South Tyrol Skyrace (69 km/3930 m): It was very hot today. The climb from Sarnthein to the Auener Joch once again demanded everything from me. Of course it's a great feeling when you win a race like that. Especially because I have only run the maximum marathon distance so far. A big compliment also to the organizers – everything was great. Maria Kemenater , winner South Tyrol Skyrace: I never thought I could win. The climb to the Sarner Scharte was extremely drawn out this time. I thought I'd never get there again and had a little crisis. Otherwise, the heat really bothered us. I will be taking part in the Skyrace again next year. Andreas Reiterer , winner of the South Tyrol Sky Marathon (42,2 km/2863 m): I set myself the goal of winning this race - I succeeded. I never thought I could run such a good time. Compared to last year I was almost a quarter of an hour faster. Of course I would have liked to break the four-hour mark - but now I have a goal for next year. Did I have a good breakfast today? Yes, of course – I ate Nutella bread.
