X-Alps: Aaron Durogati remains persistent

There are four athletes who set the tone after six in the toughest adventure race in the world. One of them is Aaron Durogati from Merano. The leading group is approaching the eighth checkpoint, the Dent d'Oche, a 2.221 meter high mountain in the French Western Alps. The Swiss Chrigel Maurer (SUI1) and the Frenchman Maxime Pinot (FRA1) are in the lead and are moving in lockstep towards the checkpoint. Immediately behind them are Benoit Outters (FRA2), Simon Oberrauner (AUT2) and Aaron Durogati (ITA1). Tobias Grossrubatscher from Castelrotto currently appears in 9th position. 48-hour ban for Donini There is no fixed route for this race. The aim is to reach the next checkpoint as quickly as possible. Every hour the athletes are faced with a multitude of difficult decisions. Follow the path or take a direct line up the mountain? Take off into the air and risk sinking like a stone, or wait for the sun? Patrick von Känel's example shows how fast this adventurous race can go. The Swiss was still in the top group on Thursday, but has now fallen significantly behind. Nicola Donini (ITA3) also had little luck. Despite his best efforts to avoid the forbidden airspace, he ended up in the no-fly zone around Innsbruck and received a 48-hour ban, which he must serve from Sunday after he took out his night pass for tonight.
