Bayern are making up ground

Borussia Dortmund suffered a setback after the gala weeks. Coach Lucien Favre's team couldn't get past a 2-2 (1-1) draw against Hertha BSC in front of their home crowd on Saturday. Because FC Bayern Munich won 2-1 (1-0) at FSV Mainz 05, the record champions moved within two points of the regional leader. Bottom of the table Fortuna Düsseldorf had to admit defeat at home to VfL Wolfsburg 0:3 (0:1). FC Augsburg won 2:1 (1:0) at Hannover 96.

Hertha held the score 0-0 for almost half an hour, then Dortmund's offensive department struck for the first time. Mario Götze inserted Jadon Sancho on the right of the six-yard box and the 18-year-old effortlessly pushed the ball into the goal in the 27th minute. The Berliners came back and equalized through Salomon Kalou (41st). 20 minutes later, Sancho shot BVB into the lead again. In stoppage time, Kalou scored with a penalty kick to make it 2-2, which was much celebrated by the Berliners.

FC Bayern put pressure on Mainz from the start - and supposedly took the lead in the 34th minute. However, Thiago's goal did not count because, from the video assistant's perspective, the goal was preceded by a foul by Robert Lewandowski. Leon Goretzka's remarkable goal from a direct shot counted (39th). After the break, FSV surprisingly equalized through Jean-Paul Boetius (48th). However, the draw only lasted until the 64th minute. Then Thiago scored for Munich, who successfully defended the score at 2-1. Wolsburg exacerbates Düsseldorf's crisis In Düsseldorf, Wout Weghorst gave the Wolfsburg guests the lead shortly before the break with a hand penalty (41'). After a free kick from William, Düsseldorf's Rouwen Hennings touched the ball with his upper arm. Josip Brekalo (73') and Daniel Ginczek (80') finally decided the game in favor of Lower Saxony. Things are becoming increasingly difficult for Fortuna after their fifth defeat in a row at the bottom of the table.

The first goal of the afternoon came in Hanover. Rani Khedira shot the guests forward in the eighth minute. Coach Manuel Baum's team improved after the break. Alfred Finnbogason confidently converted a hand penalty to make it 2-0 (63'), before Hannover came close again through Ihlas Bebou (72'). It didn't help the 96ers anymore. FCA maintained a narrow lead over time. VfB has no chance in the derby Zero points, 0:8 goals - Markus Weinzierl has to cope with a terrible start as coach of VfB Stuttgart. After the bitter 0:4 in Dortmund, the decimated Swabians also lost 0:4 (0:0) in the Baden-Württemberg derby at TSG Hoffenheim. This means that VfB remains deep in the table cellar. Joshua Brenet (48th), Joelinton (51st) and Ishak Belfodil (57th/60th) scored for Hoffenheim. Stuttgart had to play outnumbered for over 80 minutes, and Argentinian Emiliano Insua was shown a red card in the 8th minute for serious foul play. Dortmund conceded the equalizer against Hertha BSC shortly before the end. After the 2-2 draw, BVB remains undefeated this season, but is only two points ahead of Bayern. Things are looking increasingly bleak for Düsseldorf.
