Dortmund drama in Bremen: Now the title is almost gone

On Saturday evening, Werder Bremen surprisingly defied the second-place team by a point in a 2-2 draw. Substitutes Kevin Möhwald (70th minute) and Claudio Pizarro (75th) equalized for Werder. Previously, Dortmund had only used their long superior game to score goals from Christian Pulisic (6th minute) and Paco Alcácer (41st).

A week after the bitter 2:4 in the derby against FC Schalke 04, coach Lucien Favre's team suffered the next bitter setback. BVB is now four points behind and 18 goals behind leaders FC Bayern Munich in the last two matchdays of the season. However, Dortmund also has the simpler remaining program. The Westphalians are still playing against newly promoted Fortuna Düsseldorf and Borussia from Mönchengladbach, who have been indisposed for weeks. Bayern still have to play against third-placed RB Leipzig and fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt.

Dortmund leads 2-0 – but then… Without the suspended defense chief Niklas Moisander, Bremen had big problems right from the start with the offensive power of Dortmund, who initially showed no signs of uncertainty after the derby disgrace. Time and again the guests played their way through the midfield seemingly effortlessly. The future Chelsea professional Pulisic completed a wonderful solo to take the lead early on. BVB's second goal from a direct free kick from Spanish striker Alcácer came at exactly the right time for Borussia.

Despite all their efforts, Werder couldn't find their way back into the game. Dortmund and their goalkeeper Bürki did that for Bremen. The Swiss let substitute Möhwald's unplaced shot slip into the net. This gave Bremen another boost. Just five minutes later, Pizarro, who was also substituted, equalized after a serious Akanji mistake - and Werder even had a chance of winning, although that would have completely turned the game on its head. After a contentious scene in the penalty area when the ball bounced on Götze's arm, there was no penalty for SVW.
