Dortmund storms to the top of the table

Three days after the 7-0 victory over 1. FC Nürnberg, coach Lucien Favre's team won 4-2 (0-2) at Bayer Leverkusen thanks to a significant increase in performance in the second half and remains unbeaten this season. Leverkusen, on the other hand, suffered its second home defeat of the season and remains in the bottom third of the table.

Jacob Bruun Larsen (65th), Marco Reus (69th) and Paco Alcacer (85th and 90th + 4) made Dortmund's first away win since last February perfect. Mitchell Weiser (9th) and Jonathan Tah (39th) had previously ensured the hosts had a comfortable lead until the break.

In contrast to last Wednesday, BVB initially appeared extremely inhibited and for a long time could not find a way to counter the Werkself's well-organized defense. The Westphalians, who were missing Mario Götze this time due to a cold, didn't have much to think about afterwards. And in BVB's few good opportunities, Bayer goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky was the last stop: the Finn first defused a shot from Christian Pulisic (11th) and was then there (36th) for a well-placed free kick from Dortmund's Reus from 20 meters. Three minutes later, Tah took advantage of a confusion in the BVB defense, which had previously been unable to get the ball out of its own penalty area.

Reus then paved the way to success with his fourth goal of the season, which substitute Paco Alcacer ultimately completed with a “double pack” after his first big chance (73').
