Emanuele Zuelli celebrates his debut with a goal in the Primavera team

Originally intended for Chievo Verona's U17 team, the 16-year-old was called up to the Primavera team by former FC Südtirol coach Lorenzo D'Anna and scored the decisive goal in the first game.

With 20 minutes left on Saturday, Chievo coach Lorenzo D'Anna decided to send Emanuele Zuelli onto the pitch when the score was 2-1 for Udinese. Although the former FC Südtirol youth player had already trained with the Primavera team all week, this was a bit of a surprise. He repaid the trust that coach D'Anna gave the South Tyrolean with the decisive goal to make it 3-2 for Chievo. His teammate Musa Juwara first equalized to make it 2-2 before he also played the decisive pass to Zuelli. "SportNews":Where did you start playing football? EmanueleZuelli: I started at FC Bozen 96. Then I moved to FC Südtirol. The last team before Chievo Verona was FC Val Gardena. Football has always been a way for me to be among friends and has always been something important in my life. "SN":When you came to Chievo, how did you make the jump to a Serie A club? Zuelli: I did my first training session at Chievo on January 13, 2014, almost exactly four years ago. I immediately felt at home and had the feeling that I had to stay at this club. But a big difference was the commitment I had to show on and off the field. The first year I went to Verona for every training session and every game. You ate either on the train, in the car or on the bus. It wasn't always easy, but it was still nice. I have been living in a home in Verona for three years now. I found friends there who are almost like family. These help me to develop further. "SN": What lasting impressions do you have of your football life so far? Zuelli: I didn't play much the first year. Now I'm a regular player. I have many beautiful memories. I was able to play in a tournament in Milan at the San Siro Stadium, play against Real Madrid's youth team and score a goal against my peers from Arsenal London. Something special was the coach's call-up to the team to play a tournament outside of Verona. In that tournament I scored against Fiorentina. From that moment on I arrived at Chievo. "SN": You are used in many positions in midfield. Is there a favorite position? Zuelli: One of my big strengths is certainly the game overview. To this day, all coaches have confirmed this to me. Maybe because I like making a decisive pass to a teammate better than scoring a goal myself. I've been working very intensively on technique for years, especially with my weaker, left foot. I also spent many hours working individually with trainers in Bolzano. "SN": What do you expect from the second half of the season? Zuelli: I'm ready for Chievo. Until recently, playing for the Primavera team was still a dream. I hope that I can and can be very useful to the club in the future, whenever and wherever they need me. The important thing is to always be ready and, if possible, to make the difference. Clearly the first game with the Primavera team was something special.
