Bavaria overcomes the Frankfurt hurdle

Joker Leroy Sané gave FC Bayern Munich three important points on the way to the championship title. The national player scored in the 71st minute on Saturday to give the record champions a 1-0 (0-0) win at Eintracht Frankfurt. Thanks to the well-deserved success in front of 25 spectators, the Munich team extended their lead at the top of the table over Borussia Dortmund to nine points, at least for one night. The pursuer has to follow suit on Sunday at FC Augsburg.

Before the game, it was initially about politics instead of football. As a sign of solidarity with Ukraine, which was attacked by Russia, Bayern captain Robert Lewandowski wore a captain's armband in the Ukrainian national colors of blue and yellow. Before kick-off, both teams also protested against the Russian invasion with a minute's silence, and the slogan addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared on the advertising boards in the Frankfurt Arena: "Stop it, Putin!" Eintracht relied primarily on counterattacks and always remained dangerous in their occasional advances. But there were only really good chances on the other side. So when Trapp let a long-range shot from Joshua Kimmich bounce back, but ironed out his mistake against the chasing Coman himself (39th). Trapp paid for his rescue act against the Frenchman with a bloody nose, but after a short break in treatment the 31-year-old was able to continue.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann reacted to his team's ongoing goal drought and brought in another offensive force with Sané midway through the second half. That turned out to be a stroke of luck. Just five minutes after coming on as a substitute, the national player took the deserved lead (71'), which Bayern then routinely took over time. They now have 58 points in the table and are currently nine points ahead of Dortmund. The next tough test is on the agenda next Saturday against Bayer Leverkusen. Meanwhile, Gladbach fought back against Wolfsburg and turned a 0-2 deficit into a 2-2 draw. In stoppage time, Matthias Ginter even scored what was supposed to be the winning goal. However, this was withdrawn due to a previous foul. Fürth won a point at home against Cologne (1:1), Freiburg dispatched weak Herthaners 3-0. Union Berlin, on the other hand, got back on the road to success and celebrated a 3-1 win against Mainz.
