Whistles and points: Bayern shine against Leipzig

Whistle concerts, dream goals, three points: coach Julian Nagelsmann enjoyed the complete package of Bundesliga football on his return to Leipzig and won comfortably with FC Bayern Munich. Thanks to the 4-1 win at their old stomping ground at RB Leipzig, Nagelsmann's Bayern climbed to second place in the table on Saturday evening. In front of 34.000 spectators, Robert Lewandowski (12th minute/hand penalty), substitute Jamal Musiala (47th), Leroy Sané (54th) and joker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (90th + 2) ensured the third league victory in a row. Konrad Laimer's great long-range shot (58th) briefly gave the partially overwhelmed Leipzig team hope.

Nagelsmann's working day in the old home had started unpleasantly, as expected. When the ex-coach went to the TV interview in the immediate vicinity of the Leipzig fan block at 18.00 p.m., he was greeted with a concert of whistles. “That didn’t come as a surprise, it’s a bit normal in football, emotions are part of it,” said the 34-year-old, who moved to Bayern in the summer after two years in Saxony. The RB fans are angry because Nagelsmann, contrary to his announcement, took captain Marcel Sabitzer and various assistants with him to Munich. Musiala makes the difference As soon as the whistle kicked off, however, the whistling was over. Leipzig initially set the tone, but the air was quickly taken away from the runner-up, who started the season with just one win from three games. Kevin Kampl went to the ball with his arm in a duel with Leon Goretzka in the penalty area. Referee Deniz Aytekin initially did not notice the situation, but based on video evidence, he correctly decided on a penalty. Lewandowski safely converted it - and scored across the board in the 14th Bundesliga game in a row.

This gave Bayern a taste for the game and impressed them with great offensive moves. The downer: Serge Gnabry had to be substituted before the break due to injury and Musiala came on to replace him. And shortly after the change, Leipzig finally lost their courage. After a wonderful combination via Goretzka and Alphonso Davies on the left side, the young international player made a flat and unstoppable shot into the far corner. Lewandowski (49') missed the next big chance, but after another combination initiated by Musiala, Sané was there with the third goal. Laimer's dream goal is not enough Then it was time for some Leipzig emotions again. Laimer's shot from a good 20 meters was too much even for Manuel Neuer and gave rise to faint hopes of a comeback. When Nagelsmann substituted Sabitzer in the 59th minute, the Leipzig supporters tried the next loud whistle concert.

This didn't impress Bayern, they're used to something different. And so Leipzig still had a few opportunities, but never really put Munich in danger. Especially since coach Jesse Marsch only made position-related changes and didn't bring in a second striker. Substitute Choupo-Moting even secured Bayern's biggest win in Leipzig in stoppage time.
