7 years after the sensational title: Leicester are relegated

Everton FC kept their league with a narrow victory on the last matchday of the English Premier League. Two big traditional clubs have to go down for this.

Everton had it in their own hands on Sunday and won 1-0 at home against AFC Bournemouth. Abdoulaye Doucouré scored the only goal at Goodison Park (57th minute).

The Toffees' victory left Leicester City, who won 2-1 against West Ham United, and Leeds United, who lost 1-4 against Tottenham Hotspur, no longer able to avoid relegation on their own. Leicester, English champions in 2016, are relegated to the Championship after nine years in football's top flight.

Leeds are also relegated again

English champions Manchester City, who had already been confirmed before the match day, lost 0-1 at Brentford FC in London without numerous regular players, including Erling Haaland. Second-placed Arsenal FC outclassed Wolverhampton Wanderers 5-0 (3-0) thanks to a brace from Granit Xhaka (11th/14th) and goals from Bukayo Saka (27th), Gabriel Jesus (58th) and Jakub Kiwior ( 78.).

Liverpool FC, fifth in the final table, had a spectacular exchange of blows with relegated FC Southampton, in which coach Jürgen Klopp's team first lost a two-goal lead and then made up a two-goal deficit. Diogo Jota (10th/73rd), Roberto Firmino (14th) in his last game for the Reds and Cody Gakpo (72nd) scored in the 4:4 (2:2), which was of no sporting significance.
