The wedding to the former “Miss Turkey” will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel on the Bosphorus. According to media reports, the Arsenal professional invited Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the celebration.

Özil and his fiancée met Erdogan in mid-May for dinner during the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan. The professional soccer player caused controversy last summer when he posed for a photo with Erdogan with his German national teammate Ilkay Gündogan.

After Germany's early exit from the World Cup in Russia, Özil announced his resignation from the DFB team and denounced "racism and a lack of respect". Özil's allegations and the DFB's handling of the affair led to a heated debate in Germany.
