Is Carlo Ancelotti threatened with prison?

Carlo Ancelotti faces prison for tax evasion. The investigators are demanding a prison sentence of four years and nine months.

In the investigation against Carlo Ancelotti over allegations of tax fraud, the Spanish public prosecutor's office is demanding a prison sentence of four years and nine months for the Real Madrid football coach. The authorities announced this on Wednesday. The Italian is accused of evading more than one million euros in taxes in 2014 and 2015.

The authorities had already announced last year that an investigation had been initiated against the 64-year-old. The public prosecutor's office accuses Ancelotti of stating his salary in his tax return during his two years as Real coach, but concealing his income from image rights from the tax authorities. Carlo Ancelotti's lawyer did not comment on the matter.

Ancelotti is not the first person in the world of sport to be targeted by the Spanish justice system for suspected tax evasion. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have reached agreements with the authorities in the past and paid large fines.
Ancelotti was already coach at Real Madrid between 2013 and 2015, and in 2021 he celebrated his comeback on the bench of the “Royal”. In December, the club announced that the Italian's contract, which expires in June 2024, had been extended for another two years.
