The calm coach: Carlo Ancelotti turns 60

The current Napoli coach was born on June 10, 1959 as the son of a farmer in tranquil Reggiolo in Emilia-Romagna. He began his career as a professional footballer at AC Parma. After eight years at Roma, he moved to Milan and became a central part of that legendary team with stars like Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten, Frank Rijkaard, Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini, which won the European Cup in 1989 and 1990, among others.

He joined FC Bayern Munich in the summer of 2016 as an alternative to his predecessor Pep Guardiola. Ancelotti is not a control freak. He also accepts phases of weakness. Constantly being confronted with a new language, a new culture, a new country and a new club kept him young, Ancelotti said a few years ago. Nevertheless, after leaving FC Bayern, he decided to go back home. In May 2018 he signed with SSC Napoli until 2021. The team didn't win the championship title, but that wasn't really expected given Juve's dominance. There is currently no indication that he will vacate the post early, even if Cristiano Ronaldo is said to have spoken out in favor of Ancelotti in the discussion about the coaching successor at the top Turin club.
