There's a crash in the Eternal City: Roma fires sports director

In the end, Petrachi probably didn't want it any other way and got what he had been provoking for days: his expulsion. The sports director of AS Roma has a total falling out with his employer, including the board and team. Because there was no going back and Petrachi didn't want to resign under any circumstances, the club has now fired him. The reason why the sports director, who only came to Rome from Torino a year ago, did not want to resign voluntarily is a high-paying contract - which still runs for two years. Petrachi wants to have prevented Dzeko transfer Franco Baldini, a close confidant of President James Pallotta, took over the transfer business some time ago. Morgan De Sanctis will be at his side in the future. Because the ex-goalkeeper is inexperienced in club management, Baldini is supposed to deal with the most pressing personnel issues (Chris Smalling and Henrik Mkhitaryan are expected to stay after their loans). Petrachi has already caused unrest in Rome in the past. In an interview in the fall he revealed that he prevented Edin Dzeko's transfer to Inter in the spring of 2019. The spicy thing about it: At that point he was still under contract with Torino and should not have been allowed to negotiate on behalf of Roma. Petrachi's move to Roma was also of a special nature: the Piedmontese let their sports director leave for free, but in return they demanded two talented Roma youth players - and ultimately got them. A text message was the final straw Petrachi, who is said to be unpopular with players and coaching staff due to his leadership style, had sent a fiery text message to Pallotta in recent days. The president did not thank him in an interview that appeared on the Roma website. But all other employees of the first team do.

A swipe at Petrachi, who never really got into the club during his time at Roma and who had often criticized Pallotta. The content of the SMS message is said to have angered Pallotta so much that Fienga had to intervene to mediate between both parties - without success, as it turned out on Thursday. The point of contention between the two is said to have been a possible sale of the club. Most recently, US investor Dan Friedkin offered 575 million euros, but Pallotta allegedly wants 750 million.
