Lazio ends Juventus' run

Juventus' successful run came to an end on Saturday evening. The Bianconeri were unbeaten in six games, including the 1-1 draw with Inter on Tuesday, but that streak ended today in Rome. Max Allegri and Co. were no match for the eager Lazio footballers and had to return to Turin with a bitter 1:2. Maurizio Sarri and his team secured second place in the Serie A table. Lazio is 5 points ahead of city rivals AS Roma, 19 behind Napoli.

From the start, the game in the Olympic Stadium in Rome was exciting and balanced. After chances on both sides, the ball found its way into the net for the first time shortly before half-time - and with a lot of opposition from the opponents. A cross from Matteo Zaccagni found Sergej Milinkovic-Savic completely alone in the Juventus penalty area. He didn't hesitate for long and sent the ball past Wojciech Szczesny with a powerful shot and celebrated his 1-0 lead. But the players from Turin circled around the referee and claimed to have seen a foul and a handball. But VAR disagreed and the goal counted (38th).

However, Juventus didn't let that stop them. Just a little later, Adrien Rabiot took advantage of the chaos in Lazio's five-meter area and poked the ball into the goal over Ivan Provedel, who was lying on the ground and had already held the ball twice (42'). An ugly goal, but the Bianconeri celebrated the equalizer. Juve dominated after the break, but it was Lazio who scored the opening goal. Luis Alberto showed a good eye and fed Zaccagni with a through ball into the penalty area. He sent the ball into the bottom right corner to give Lazio a 2-1 lead (53'). Allegri whipped his charges forward in the final half hour, but the Roman defense held. The game ended 2:1.

Atalanta stumbles against Bologna The second Italian top team Atalanta Bergamo also suffered a setback in the race for the European places. Gianpiero Gasperini's men lost 0-2 at home to Bologna. The goals for the guests were scored by Nicola Sansone (49th) and Riccardo Orsolini (86th). This puts Bologna within 5 points of the hosts and is only three points behind the qualifying place for the Europa League, which Inter currently holds. The Milanese had to be content with a 1-1 draw against Salernitana on Friday.

Lazio ends Juventus' run

In the top game of Serie A, Lazio managed to end Juventus' winning streak and consolidate second place in the table. Atalanta had already made a mistake against Bologna before.
