Napoli consolidates its lead in Rome

The previously undefeated Napoli went into the game against Roma with a lot of confidence; the southern Italians were able to win the last seven Serie A games and the first four games in the Champions League. But Roma have also been in good form recently and won their last three league games, but the Giallorossi have been waiting for a win against Napoli since November 2019.

The opening minutes belonged to Napoli, who immediately took control of the game. However, Rome had the first chance of the game, Nicolo Zaniolo's long-range shot narrowly missed the goal. Shortly afterwards, Abraham was set up by Camara and his shot went wide of the far corner. Napoli needed some time to make the first statement: Victor Osimhen's shot from the edge of the penalty area was safely held by Rui Patricio in the Roma goal.

In the 37th minute the VAR had to be used, the question: penalty for Napoli, yes or no? Tanguy Ndombele dribbled past two opponents in the penalty area, Patricio rushed out and brought the Frenchman down, but was finger first on the ball before hitting Ndombele - no penalty. Better entertainment in the second half The first half didn't live up to the description of a top game; although the game was hard-fought and intense, there were few chances to score. The second half started more promisingly. Patricio in the Rome goal directed a powerful shot from Lozano over the crossbar in the 48th. Before Chris Smalling prevented the Romans from falling behind with a tackle five minutes later. From then on, Napoli were able to record an increase in chances (12 to 6 shots on goal) and became dangerous through Eljif Elmas and Juan Jesus.

In the 80th minute of the game, the Neapolitan lead followed logically: Politano played a long ball behind the Roman defense, Smalling tried to clear but didn't catch the ball properly, Osimhen hit the ball with a spectacular volley into the far corner from a tight angle. After five minutes of added time, the final result was 1-0 for Napoli, who now lead the table by three points over Milan. Napoli continues in the premier class, where they face Glasgow Rangers on Wednesday.

Napoli consolidates its lead in Rome

The top game in Serie A was leaders Napoli against fifth-placed Roma. After a slow start, Napoli were able to put their stamp on the game, especially in the second half, and deservedly won 1-0 in the end.
