Algunder mini golfers are team Italian champions

Yesterday, the mini golfers from MV Algund/Raiffeisen were able to fulfill their dream of winning the second Italian team championship title on the Eternit course in the Algund mini golf club. MV Algund won the men's title ahead of defending champions GSP Vergiate and MGC Novi Ligure. In the women's category, MGC Terenten and MV Algund took silver and bronze behind Cusano Milanino.

According to the regulations, it was not Algund who qualified for the “Champions League” 2020, but Vergiate again, as Algund did not take part in the Italian team championship last year and could not qualify.

“Better to hunt than to be the hunted” MVA President Roland Brunello “The last round was very emotional for us. After 6 rounds we had already written off the title. Then came our big comeback, which led us to success,” said the President of MV Algund, Roland Brunello. “It is better to hunt than to be the hunted,” believes Brunello.

The new competition mode based on the points system ensured excitement right up to the end. Algund took the lead in the men's third round with 3 points ahead of Novi Ligure (26) and Vergiate (24). In the 19th round on Saturday, the Algunder team, reinforced with Hannes Laimer and Kurt Unterhauser from SV Lana and the Swiss Renè Schäppy as a loan player, slipped back to second place. 4 unsuccessful rounds on the 2nd day of the competition knocked the Algunders out of the title fight. Then came their big comeback. In the 2th round, the six of them played a sensational track record with 2 strokes and, before the last round, were level with Vergiate on 7 points, but clearly behind Novi Ligure. In the last round, Roland Brunello set the course record of completing all 121 holes in one shot. With 45 strokes, Algund won the final round and the title. Terento takes silver ahead of Lagundo The mini golf team from Terento took second place.

The mini golfers from MGC Terenten were happy with the silver medal. “We have achieved our goal. Second place is a great success for us. Cusano Milanino was out of reach for us,” said Elvira Schmidt from MGC Terenten. Below are the results: Team classification (8 rounds) Men : 1. Amatese with Dieter Kaufmann (175 strokes) 17.
