McIlroy takes his first win since 2016 - Woods fifth

Orlando (SID) Northern Irish golf star Rory McIlroy celebrated his first victory in 18 months at the Arnold Palmer Invitationals in Orlando, Florida. The former world number one mastered the par-72 course on the final day with an outstanding 64 and was three strokes ahead of second-placed Bryson DeChambeau (270:273) in the final score. The 14-time major winner Tiger Woods (USA/278) climbed the table again with a good 69 on Sunday, finishing fifth three weeks before the US Masters in Augusta. Woods is now ranked 105th in the world rankings; he was last in the top 100 on March 22, 2015. "It's so nice that everything is finally working out again," said four-time major winner McIlroy, who completed the victory with five birdies on the last six holes: "I wasn't that far away recently either, and I'm proud of that I persevered through the difficult months." McIlroy celebrated his last victory in September 2016 at the Tour Championship in Atlanta, Georgia. Thanks to his success, he climbed back into the top 10 as the new number seven. After his long injury break, Woods regained hope for a strong performance at the Masters in Georgia. “I felt pretty good on the green,” said the 42-year-old: “I hit the ball a little better than last.” A week earlier, Woods had finished second in Palm Harbor, Florida. At the $8,9 million tournament in Orlando, Alexander Cejka, the only German starter in Florida, missed the cut. With 147 shots, the Munich player was eliminated at halftime.
