ESPN: Ryder Cup postponed for a year

The country comparison between the USA and Europe, which takes place every two years, was planned for the period from September 25th to 27th in Wisconsin; now the Ryder Cup is to be played at a similar date in 2021. The decision takes into account the pandemic, which is still increasing in the USA; the situation has worsened in several states in recent weeks. In April, the US PGA association had already considered holding the event without spectators, but received prominent opposition. The world number one Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) had already campaigned for a postponement under these circumstances. "I have a very clear idea. A Ryder Cup without spectators is not a Ryder Cup," he said at the time and said he would "rather postpone it for a year than play without fans." Due to the relocation of the Ryder Cup, the Presidents Cup planned for 2021 - a comparison between the USA and a team from several non-European countries - will also be postponed by a year.
