South Tyrolean medal wins in minigolf championships in Siusi

The South Tyroleans won 4 individual medals and 2 team medals today at the Italian Minigolf Championship for youth and seniors in Siusi. Raphael Brunello (18) from Algund secured the U19 title ahead of Ramona Schmid (17) from Terenten. Dieter Kaufmann from Siusi and Elfriede Bacher (Lagundo) became runner-up Italian champions in the senior category.

For the third time since 3 and 2005, the Eternit facility in Seis was the venue for the Italian minigolf championship for youth (U2014 and U19) and seniors (over 15 years). The 46 participants had to be patient on Saturday. The tournament was interrupted eleven times due to heavy rain. Of the 92 planned rounds, only 8 could be played. 6 preliminary round and 1 final round were canceled.

In the U19 class, Raphael Brunello clearly came out ahead of Ramona Schmid. After a 20 in the 5th round, the Algunder went into the final round with a 7-shot lead over Schmid. Schmid was able to catch up with two more shots, but clearly had to let Brunello go first. “I’m happy about winning the title. It was my first individual medal at an Italian minigolf championship,” said Raphael Brunello. The Algunder also won bronze in the youth team ranking. Ramona Schmid, on the other hand, has achieved a podium finish at an Italian youth championship for the second time.

In the male seniors, local hero Dieter Kaufmann had to bow to Michele Graffeo (Vergiate) on lane 2 in the play-off for the title and took silver. Despite losing the play-off, the President of the South Tyrolean Golf Course Association was happy about the silver medal he won. Elfriede Bacher (Lagundo) also secured silver among the female seniors. Bacher did not expect a medal. For her and Dieter Kaufman it was the first individual medal at a senior Italian championship.
