Tiger Woods is aiming to take part in the Olympics for the first time

“Would I like to play in the Olympics? Yes, I've never competed in the Olympics and I'm sure at 43 years old I won't have many more opportunities to do so," Woods said ahead of the US PGA Championships starting on Thursday. The newly crowned Masters winner would be happy “if I were part of the team.”

To qualify for Tokyo, Woods must rank among the top 22 in the world and the top four Americans by the deadline of June 2020, 15. The 15-time major winner is currently ranked sixth in the world. Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) also said it was “likely” he would tee off in Japan and it would be “a great experience.”

Woods is aiming for his fifth championship title after 1999, 2000, 2006 and 2007 from Thursday on Long Island – at the second major tournament of the year. With his 82nd success on the US tour, he would also equal Sam Snead's record and could return to the top of the world rankings by winning the Wanamaker Trophy.
