Woods sued over employee's fatal driving accident

The parents of bartender Nicholas Immesberger, who died in an accident in December, accuse the Masters winner of violating his duty of care towards employees. The lawsuit, filed in court in Palm Beach, Florida, asks Woods for “reasonable damages” in addition to reimbursement for medical and funeral expenses.

On December 10th, after his shift at Woods' restaurant in Jupiter, Florida, Immesberger stayed in the restaurant run by Woods' girlfriend Erica Herman and had several more drinks. Later that evening, her son was sent home in a state of “severe alcohol poisoning” before the 24-year-old got behind the wheel of his car and had a fatal accident on the drive home. Immesberger's later blood sample showed an alcohol content of 2,56 per mille.

From the point of view of Immesberger's parents, Woods, as the owner of the bar, is responsible for what happens in his bar. Because both the former world number one and Herman were aware of their employee's alcohol problems, Immesberger should not have been entertained in the restaurant, the parents argued in theirs Statement of Claim.

Woods will start at the US PGA Championship in Farmingdale/New York on Thursday. At the major tournament, the Californian wants to confirm his sensational Masters success from last month.
