Alexander Zadra surprises the “big ones”

As a U-18 athlete, he took part in this year's Serie A Italian Adult Championships and immediately won the bronze medal in the -87 kg heavyweight class. The 17-year-old flew straight from the training camp in Mexico, where he was under the wing of former youth national coach and current commissioner of FITA-CONI Trentino/South Tyrol Israel Briones Vazquez, to the Italian Championships in Naples.

Zadra won his first fight against Giuseppe Finamore (Campania) with 18:16 points. Already in this first fight, an old injury flared up again, which he had recently picked up in the semi-finals of the G1 World Cup in Croatia. Despite his injury, Zadra also faced his second fight against Vincenzo Galli, which hardly anyone had imagined. Despite all the prophecies of doom, Kurtatscher also won this fight with 22:20 points and thus secured the bronze medal. But then unfortunately it was finally over: he couldn't possibly fight the third fight, he couldn't even stand up straight anymore.

Medal presented by father Nevertheless, the performance of the young martial artist is remarkable: will, perseverance despite pain, gritted his teeth and kept fighting. A sign that he has also grown mentally and has mastered the jump from the youth classes into the world of adults, where a completely different wind is blowing.

The heavyweight class -87 kg was won by Roberta Botta, who recently even defeated the Rio 2016 Olympic champion Radik Isayev (AZE) at the Grand Prix. In the men's lightweight -68 kg class, Tobias Santer finished 17th overall. Nice detail on the side: Markus Zadra, regional delegate of FITA-CONI, was able to present the medal to his son Alexander.
