Boxing: Felix Sturm arrested

The Cologne police confirmed this on Saturday in response to a SID request, but did not comment on the background. According to Bild am Sonntag, the arrest occurred on Friday at the FIBO fitness trade fair. The 40-year-old is allegedly accused of tax evasion.

The super middleweight recently hit the headlines because of a positive doping test. After his victory on February 20, 2016 in Oberhausen in the World Cup rematch against the Russian Fyodor Tschudinov, Sturm tested positive for the anabolic substance hydroxy-stanozolol in samples A and B.

However, a trial against Sturm fell through; the 8th Large Criminal Chamber in Cologne refused to open the main proceedings in January because there was no sufficient suspicion against the ex-champion. Neither the world association WBA nor the Association of German Professional Boxers (BDB) had banned Sturm.
