First regional committee in Taekwondo is established

If the number of clubs exceeds ten, elections will be held. That was the case this year. To date, Markus Zadra has managed the association's business as a delegate of the Italian trade association in South Tyrol and Trentino. Over the years, Kurtatscher has built up one club after another. Now it is primarily his students who lead the officially affiliated FITA-CONI clubs - twelve in total. Contrary to all expectations, Zadra did not run for president in these first regional elections. Although he was encouraged by the association and the clubs to continue the successful line, he gratefully declined. Rather, he has Dr. Col. Leonardo Albanesi was proposed for the office of president, who has been closely linked to taekwondo since its beginnings: The native of Bolzano, born in 1965, was himself a taekwondo student of Markus Zadra, and also married his sister Evi, who founded the taekwondo club in Tramin and wears the black belt. Zadra in the committee At the moment the high carabinieri officer Dr. Col. Leonardo Albanesi, commander of the Carabinieri training center in Selva di Val Gardena, has four doctorates, has served in several foreign missions, including Kosovo, Iraq and Lebanon, and is still a competitive swimmer with the Bolzano Nuoto club. Markus Zadra (Kurtatsch), Freddy Facchinelly (Montan), Katia Ghilardi (Mezzolombardo) and Luigi Stabile (Cles) were elected to the committee. Freddy Facchinelli was one of the first black belts in South Tyrol and – like Lugi Stabile – a student of Markus Zadra. Katia Gilardi sits on the committee for the women's quota. She is the wife of Alex Fersini, a former student of Markus Zadra and now responsible for the referees in South Tyrol and Trentino. This means that South Tyrol and Trentino are represented with the same number of four members. Great joy “The composition of the regional committee couldn’t have been better,” says Markus Zadra with great satisfaction. “These are people who have exemplified the values of Korean martial arts and Olympic discipline since the beginning. They have set a good example and competence over the years and yet have remained down-to-earth and humble. This stands for “DO” (right path) in Taekwondo. For me a big chapter is now closed. 20 years ago I opened a path that did not yet exist in South Tyrol. It is now up to the new regional committee to continue and expand this legacy. What made me extremely happy was the fact that so many people appreciated my work. The outcome of these elections speaks volumes.” The first new regional committee: President: Dr. Col. First regional committee in Taekwondo is established

The first regional elections in the 20-year history of FITA-CONI recently took place. The cultural center in Kurtatsch was a worthy setting.
