South Tyrolean martial artist successful in Rome

At this tournament, the martial artists did not compete for their respective clubs, but rather formed a regional team together that competed for Trentino/South Tyrol and was looked after by the regional trainers under the direction of Markus Zadra. The South Tyrolean athletes, the 5, and the Trentino athletes, who were able to win a medal, provided a sporting fireworks display.

Indira Fischer won the gold medal in the U-17 youth class -63 kg with three fights won, while Nora Adami won the silver medal in the women's class -3 kg. Bronze went to Alexander Zadra in the U-57 youth class +17 kg, Julia Zelger in the U-78 youth class -17 kg, Laura Fürler in the U-49 youth class and Giulia Briones Vazquez in the U-14 youth class -14kg.

The regional selection from Trentino/South Tyrol achieved their best result ever with a total of 6 medals. There were great compliments for the region from association president Angelo Cito and general secretary Massimiliano Campo. Head of delegation Markus Zadra: “In September 2000 I had a dream. To bring FITA Olympic Taekwondo to South Tyrol. For 4 years I traveled twice a week from Kurtatsch (BZ) to Schio (VI) to master Alessandro Vaccari to learn Taekwondo. It was a hard time. But it wasn't in vain. In moments when the athletes of our country, which has a comparatively very short history in Taekwondo, are on the fighting field, I am filled with gratitude. Coming from nothing, we were a great team of 16 athletes and 4 coaches at the Olympic dream cup this year and won a total of 6 medals. More than some much larger regions. I would like to thank everyone who made a dream a reality.”
