Andrea Ebner is crowned Italian champion

To mark the opening of the new climbing structure in the sports center of Cavareno in Trentino, the Italian Difficulty Climbing Championships were held. The talented Andrea Ebner from Brixen showed a great performance in front of an enthusiastic and numerous audience. She only had to admit defeat by the exceptional athlete Laura Rogora from Rome. This won the title for the second time in a row. The experienced athlete Jenny Lavarda from the Army Sports Group came third. The combination rating was determined from all three disciplines, i.e. difficulty climbing (lead), bouldering and speed climbing. Andrea Ebner won this with a big lead over second-placed Asja Gollo from Turin and the speed specialist Elisabetha Dalla Brida from Mezzolombardo.

There was an exciting final for the men. Stefano Ghisolfi (police sports group) climbed the very difficult final route. Only one athlete managed to do this, namely Francesco Vettorata from Belluno. Due to the better result in the semi-finals, Francesco Vettorata became the deserved Italian champion 2016. The young Giorgio Bendazzoli from Schio showed an impressive performance. He failed just one touch below the top and came third. With Filip Schenk, Lorenzo Sinibaldi and David Oberprantacher, three national squad athletes were in the final of Italy's best. They came in sixth (Schenk), ninth (Sinibaldi) and eleven (Oberprantacher). In the men's overall ranking we have another South Tyrolean top result. David Piccolruaz (AVS Meran) came second behind Marcello Bombardi (Military Sports Group) and ahead of Leonardo Gontero (B-Side Turin).

The Italian professional sports association FASI took the sporting opportunity to award five deserving sport climbers of the year 2016. Among the athletes honored were two South Tyrolean state squad athletes: Andrea Ebner, who came fourth in the combination at the World Championships, and Michael Piccolruaz, who achieved a second podium finish in the World Cup this season.

Andrea Ebner is crowned Italian champion

Andrea Ebner is in top form. She won two titles at the Italian championship in difficult climbing (lead) in Cavareno: victory in the combination ranking and the runner-up title in difficult climbing. David Piccolruaz finished second in the combined classification.
