Brixen World Cup: The women show their skills in the qualification

The American Natalia Grossman was the first to enter the stage (Group A) and won easily. With particular ease she managed to reach all five tops on the first attempt (as the only athlete). Numerous spectators cheered her on during this brilliant sporting achievement - including the school children from Brissago. Grossman is visibly happy with her performance: “I had a lot of fun today, the boulders were really well built. It was my first time climbing here in Brixen, previously I only knew the Arco climbing walls in Italy. The routes were sometimes strange, but beautiful. I started with great conviction and felt strong in my form. We'll see how it goes tomorrow, maybe we'll get the fourth win in a row - I hope so!" Grossmann's teammate Brooke Raboutou (second in the World Cup ranking) and the Frenchwoman Oriane Bertone (third in the World Cup) canceled their participation at the last moment -rating).

However, another Frenchwoman drew attention: Fanny Gibert also managed five tops, but with one more attempt than the American. She was the best in Group B. The German Hannah Meul and the Chinese Zhilu Luo caused a surprise, coming second in their respective groups and placing behind the Korean Chaehyun Seo and the Japanese Serika Okawachi.

Camilla Moroni confirmed her form for the Italians. She finished 15th with four tops, securing a place in the semi-finals. “Maybe I could have done better,” Moroni said, “especially on boulder number 3, which I didn’t make. The best approach seemed to be the one I tried last. For me this boulder was difficult to understand. I recognized the method that appealed to me the most too late. Overall I think it went quite well. I'm definitely feeling good, I was a little nervous this morning. I knew it would be a difficult round as soon as I saw the list of competitors. The bouldering wall is very beautiful, the walls have nice slopes; The warm-up area is also great for athletes. We also climb at home. I was already here in 2019 when I managed to come second at the European Youth Championships.”

Until halfway through the qualification, Giorgia Tesio from Cuneo (21st) was also among the 20. The other Italians were eliminated, which was to be expected given the high level of the participating athletes: Laura Rogora (25th), Federica Papetti (41st) , Irina Daziano (45th), Giulia Medici (49th), Francesca Matuella (61st), Miriam Fogu (61st) and Beatrice Colli (65th). At 16.30 p.m. it's the men's turn: the South Tyroleans cheer on local hero Michael Piccolruaz.
