“Sport climbing is experiencing an incredible boom in South Tyrol”

From June 10th to 12th, a Boulder World Cup will take place in South Tyrol for the first time. The event takes place at the “Vertikale” bouldering facility, the climbing center in Brixen. This is the culmination of decades of development. The AVS, Italy's Climbing Association (FASI) and the vertical operators organize the World Cup together.

“In the 90s, sport climbing was incorporated into the AVS (Alpine Club of South Tyrol; Note d. Red. ) recorded. Since then, many climbing halls have been built in South Tyrol. 10 years ago, climbing was still a fringe sport. She has now even become an Olympic athlete. If you look at the climbing halls in this country, they are not only full, but pumping.” Brixen offers space for 2.500 spectators A good month before, a European Cup takes place in Brixen, as a dress rehearsal for the World Cup, so to speak. Normally the vertical in Brixen offers space for around 500 spectators. A temporary grandstand will be set up for the World Cup. This means that around 2.500 visitors (including media representatives and volunteers) can experience the event live on site. There hasn't been a Boulder World Cup held in Italy for 11 years. The event in Brixen in mid-June is therefore a great “satisfaction” for the organizers and the entire local climbing scene. By the way, Brixen stepped in for Moscow. The Russian metropolis was deprived of the World Cup due to the war in Ukraine.
