Ice climbing: The World Cup party in Rabenstein can begin

Everything is set for the South Tyrolean Ice Climbing Festival, which will take place this weekend in Meran and then in Rabenstein in the Passeier Valley. The route setters Attilio Munari, Loris Manzana and Khim Yong Heon have been in action since Monday. They are preparing the extremely demanding routes on which the best ice climbers in the world will fight for the World Cup medals from Saturday.

103 athletes from 19 nations have registered for the World Championships in Rabenstein. There will be an international flair in the 230-person village at the foot of the Timmelsjoch. With Angelika Rainer from Meran, a South Tyrolean will even fight for the World Cup crown. The 28-year-old is not only the defending champion - she has won the last three World Championships and now wants to win her fourth gold. Rainer, who won the World Cup dress rehearsal in Saas Fee last weekend, is not the only South Tyrolean at the start. Barbara Zwerger from Bolzano will also take part in the World Cup. In the men's category, the defending champion is Alexey Tomilov and comes from Russia.

Lively opening ceremony on Friday

On Friday, January 30th, the title fights will be ceremoniously opened at the Thermenplatz in Passerstadt. It starts at 10 a.m. with a public climbing up the 15 meter high mobile ice tower.

From 15.30 p.m. the presenters Martin Böckle (he created a great atmosphere at the Biathlon World Cup in Antholz last week, editor's note) and Deborah Sparber (Radio Tirol) will lead through the afternoon or evening, with a live performance by Peter Santoni, dance performances by a breakdance group, a multi-vision show with world champion Angelika Rainer, dance shows with LED effects, a fashion show, a speed climbing event and finally a big fire show. Chainsaw artist Manfred Brunner will also show his skills at Thermenplatz during the opening event in Merano.

The weekend is dedicated to ice climbing – great supporting program

The weekend is all about ice climbing. The qualification in difficulty climbing (Lead) begins on Saturday, January 31st at 9.15:14 a.m. The women's semi-final takes place in the early afternoon (16.30 p.m.), before the speed climbers come into the spotlight from 19.20:20.30 p.m. The women's final begins at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. and the men's final at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. In speed climbing, a completely normal World Cup stage takes place in Rabensein.

The world champions in difficult climbing will be crowned on Sunday from 13.30 p.m. This is also the highlight of the three-day ice climbing spectacle. Before that, from 8.30 a.m., the men first have to secure their final ticket.

There is also a very colorful program outside of the World Championships. During the two days of competition there will be beer crate climbing for all spectators. On Sunday there is a morning pint with the Rabensteiner Bohemian from 10.30 a.m. In addition, the freestyle group Vitamin F will be sure to amaze with their tricks, as will the paragliding group Acro with their daredevil feats. The Ice Climbing World Championships will conclude on Sunday with a fire and light show from 17.30:XNUMX p.m.

Competitions will be broadcast live

For all ice climbing fans who cannot come to Rabenstein, there will be the opportunity to follow the World Cup via live stream. The semi-finals and finals in difficult climbing will be broadcast, as well as the finals in speed climbing on Saturday.
