Val Gardena's Filip Schenk takes bronze

The highlight of the 2018 national competition season in difficult climbing took place at the Bruneck Climbing Center with the Italian Championships. The best pre-qualified athletes measured themselves on the difficult routes at World Cup level.

A total of 5 South Tyrolean athletes were there: Filip Schenk, Michael Piccolruaz (police sports group), David Oberprantacher (AVS Passeier), Andrea Ebner (AVS Brixen), Elisabeth Lardschneider (AVS Meran). Three South Tyrolean athletes climbed with the top ten finalists for the coveted podium places on Saturday evening.

Filip Schenk from Val Gardena achieved this masterpiece. He won bronze and was only beaten by world-class athletes Stefano Ghisolfi and Francesco Vettorata. Ghisolfi defended his title confidently and was the only athlete to climb to the top hold. Vettorata made it to the final wall section below the top.

Sara Avoscan came third, winning the bronze medal after a long break from competition. Andrea Ebner from Brixen climbed a good race and came fifth in the national ranking. The remarkable achievement of the young Val Gardena native Elisabeth Lardschneider should be mentioned. She was even in second place after the semi-finals. In the final her foot slipped and she fell to tenth place.
