Climbers show top performances at the European Cup in Brixen

Numerous spectators gathered in the “Vertical Climbing Stadium” on Sunday to watch and cheer on the best boulderers in Europe. They were not disappointed, as the athletes demonstrated bouldering skills at their finest. While the semi-finals took place in the morning, the eight best women and the eight best men competed against each other in the final round in the afternoon. The French route setter Jacky Godoffe built eight bouldering routes that were tough. Only the best in the field prevailed: in the women's category it was the Austrian Sandra Lettner, in the men's category it was the Belgian Simon Lorenzi. He climbed 3 tops and 4 zones. Just behind the winner was the Frenchman Mathieu Ternant with the same number of points as Lorenzi. His lower score in the semifinals ultimately cost him first place. Completing the podium was German Yannick Flohé, one of the favorites of the day, who also scored 11 tops and 3 zones in 4 attempts. The winner Lorenzi was overjoyed with the victory: “I am satisfied with my performance and I am happy to have won here,” said Lorenzi. “My father is Italian, he comes from Alleghe, I feel at home here too. I didn't find the boulder particularly difficult, but you can't afford to make any mistakes if you want to win. I will also be at the start of the World Cup in June and hope to achieve a good result then too.” Sandra Lattner in a class of her own In the women's category, the first five athletes in the ranking solved all four boulders; the decisive factor was ultimately the number of attempts. Sandra Lettner showed an amazing competition, she managed all 4 tops and 4 zones in 7 attempts, Eliska Adamovska from the Czech Republic only needed one more - she came second. Agathe Calliet from France needed two more attempts and came third. Delighted and surprised by her performance today, Lettner says: “I can’t believe it! I think this vertical bouldering wall is one of the best there is. I also won here in 2019. Now there’s another competition in Brixen, I’m there and I’ll give my best then too.” Schenk after thumb injury 12. In the semi-final, which took place in the morning, the 20 athletes who had passed the qualification yesterday took part. However, none of the athletes made it to the final: Filip Schenk came 12th; he slightly injured his thumb. Irina Daziano came 12th, Giulia Medici was 15th, Federica Papetti 16th, Francesca Matuella 17th and Miriam Fogu 18th.

A KIetterfest comes to an end: Sandra Lettner from Austria and Simon Lorenzi from Belgium won the European Cup stage in Brixen. For the organizers it was the dress rehearsal for the Boulder World Cup in June.
