Medals for Filip Schenk and Michael Piccolruaz

The Alpine Club of South Tyrol was responsible for the exemplary organization of the 2nd Italian Cup in lead climbing. A total of around seventy athletes from thirty clubs took part. The South Tyrolean athletes knew how to make full use of their home advantage. It was already clear in the qualifying rounds that the form was right.

The young Filip Schenk (AVS Brixen) was in second place behind the favorite Stefano Ghisolfi (Polizeisportgruppe) since the start of the competition. He was closely followed by Michael Piccolruaz (AVS Meran), who was able to maintain his third position throughout. The good performances of the other South Tyrolean athletes in the final should be mentioned: David Oberprantacher (AVS Meran) came eighth and David Piccolruaz (AVS Meran) tenth.

Felix Kiem (AVS Meran) climbed into the semi-finals in 14th place, Moritz Sigmund (AVS Brixen) 15th, Stefan Scarperi (AVS St. Pauls) 17th, Juri Unterkofler 22nd, Janluca Kostner (AVS Gröden) 24th.

In the women's category, Jana Messner was the only South Tyrolean athlete to reach the final of the top eight. She even qualified in third place in the semi-finals and then came in a good fifth place in the final. Claudia Ghisolfi from Turin won ahead of her compatriot Asja Gollo. Jenny Lavarda (Carabinieri) came third. For Andrea Ebner (AVS Brixen) and winner of the first Italian Cup in Milan, the race didn't go as planned; she came 10th. Elisabeth Lardschneider (AVS Val Gardena) was 11th, Katrin Mair (AVS Brixen) 13th, Amelie Resch 15th, Lisa Moser (AVS Meran) was 18th and were happy with her performance. Mara Plaikner (AVS Brixen) 21st and Jana Sanin (AVS Meran) 23rd.

Giorgia Tesio from Cuneo won the women's youth ranking ahead of Jana Messner (AVS Brixen) and Olimpia Ariani from Florence. In the men's race, Filip Schenk (AVS Brixen) won ahead of David Piccolruaz (AVS Meran) and Davide Marco Colombo from Milan. South Tyrolean lead climbing champions are Jana Messner and Filip Schenk.

The next Italian Cup Lead will take place on June 25th in Biella, before the European Lead Climbing and Speed Climbing Championships take place in Campitello di Fassa at the end of June.
