Piccolruaz climbs to the Italian championship title

The competition in Val Masino, as part of the international bouldering meeting “Melloblocco”, was exciting until the end. Until the last block, four athletes fought for the podium among men. Michael Piccolruaz from AVS Meran climbed from third place in the semi-finals to the highest place on the podium. In the final he managed four tops in eight attempts. Second-placed Matteo Manzoni from Bergamo also climbed four tops, although he needed four more attempts to do so. Riccardo Piazza from Perugia, who had been leading for a long time, came third. Filip Schenk (AVS Brixen) had already achieved a great performance by reaching the final. He finished sixth with two tops. Other South Tyrolean semi-finalists were Lorenzo Sinibaldi in 18th place, David Oberprantacher in 28th place, Stefan Scarperi in 29th place and David Piccolruaz in 31st place.

In the women's category, Andrea Ebner from AVS Brixen was comfortably in the lead with three tops in the first attempt. But on the fourth block it fell out of the wall, one step short of the top. The young Giorgia Tesio from Cuneo, on the other hand, climbed the last top in the third attempt and was the only athlete to achieve four tops. Camilla Moroni from Genoa, just sixteen years old, came third. Also making it to the semi-finals were Nora Rainer (AVS Meran) from Bolzano in 14th place, Amelie Resch (AVS Brixen) in 19th place and Lisa Moser (AVS Meran) in 20th place.

In the end, the South Tyrol teams were the dominant force in the overall ranking. AVS Brixen won the team competition ahead of AVS Meran and the team from Perugia.

Piccolruaz climbs to the Italian championship title

Fifteen South Tyrolean athletes competed in the national bouldering championships in Val Masino. Michael Piccolruaz was crowned 2017 Italian champion, while Andrea Ebner took silver.
